I love being an INDONESIAN

I love my INDONESIA

NOW and FOREVER

There’s no other word but different

Races, Religions, languages, cultures

From Sabang to Merauke

From Batak to Dayak

We were one

We are one

I still remember the story

the story about how glourious Indonesia used to be

Together we’ll make Indonesia what we want it to be

we’ll make it come true

My Indonesia

That emerald archipelago on the equator

Your generations is too exhausted

they’re blinded by money

they’re too busy too take care of you

too busy enriching their saving accounts

as long as they can sleep and eat

they don’t care about anything else

We said that Indonesia is our home

but looked what we’ve done

Destroyed the garden

burned the trees

bombed the ponds

’til fish thet we ea5t is contaminated by the poision

made it dirty with the pollution, dust, and garbege

wasted our time by shopping at the mall, throwing away our money

while many of our brothers are starving

While flood, tsunami, and earthquake are destroying our home

while national debt keeps increasing

we admitted that we’re Indonesian

but we don’t know our own culture

but memorized other country’s cultures

‘who are you?’

‘are we Indonesian?’

‘we are Indonesian, aren’t we?’

“Indonesian people are the ones who think that we are all family and the ones who love their own family, who sacrifice their bodies and soul for their country, who are tolerant, who don’t mind being friends with anyone, who tret anyone equally.who don’t discriminate their family, the ones who are grateful of being different. the ones who love being Indonesian, because they want to. Not because They were born as.”

Sadness is covering this republic

When first time I thought

what do I feel?

WHAT I feel when I know that I was born as an Indonesian

Isn’t it happy?

what am I happy of?

All the people here are suffering because of the disaster…

Isn’t it Proud?

what am I proud of?

I haven’t done anything for my beloved country

Sad?

but Why?

knowing that God has given this country prosperity and a lot of natural resources

Or Satisfied

But It is comfortable, I choose

Indonesia is the place where my life begin and It’ll be where it end

Where I am being loved and loving the other

But How Can?

As if our holding hands streched out

I don’t even recognize Indonesia

that my grandma told me about

No Disaster

No War

All the Indonesian children played together

they didn’t asked their origin

But

we saw, didn’t we?

we saw Javanese

They are singing prayers for people in Banda

we heard

people in Ambon giving their food for earthquake victims in Jogja

We complete each other with our defferences

we know that an Indonesian heart beats in our blood

we are like butterflies

different, but when we’re together

very beautiful

we’re flying to the same destination

We are

spread all over this republic

to gather the pieces of unity and integrity

to stop the war between ethnics groups

and built this country with love

with love that that believes we can change anything

with love that will kill all prejudice and revenge

with faith, with respect

for all the tears that we shed

for all the pain that we’ve got to get freedom

for everything Indonesia has taught us

our minds are one

ane aim

our eyes are one

one vision

our mouths are one

one language

we’re different

Races

Religions

Cultures

But we’re all Indonesian

don’t you remember these words

the words thatremind me about our struggles

the words taht remids me about the day “august 17 1945″

the words that show me how it feels to be and Indonesian

“BHINEKA TUNGGAL IKA”

we’ve said that we would continue fighting and struggling

they fought a longtime ago

Soekarno, soetomo, Hatta

Now it’s our turn

believe us

there’s hope behind and Indonesian face

If before I was I had been asked by god in heaven:

“what do you want to be?”

“Do you want to be American, British or Japanese?”

“those country are very wealthy, and if you choose one of them you’ll be very lucky”

I would’ve answered

“Iwould like to be an Indonesian”

Here We Stay

Us

We’re all Indonesian

Here in the land and sea

That was built by Indonesian

honestly, this poem is ungrammatical, but it’s such a very wonderful and inspiring poem, reading this poem make me realize that as young generation of indonesia we should be proud of our own nation, if not us then who???? keep on stuggling in loving our nation

I recognize now that I was wrong to hate my country..
We can’t hate our country cause in this country we were born and had a nice life with our family, friends, neighbours and our brothers from other city in Indonesia.. Ok, we can disappointed of our country now, but in the future we must proud of it.. We must try to built our country better than now.. That’s our responsibility as the young generation of Indonesia, isn’t it?

to be proud of something need realize how much do we love it,
and as far as i know, i was so rude to my beloved country
i often complain about anything in indonesia,
but now, i realize n recognize that indonesia is the best and always be in my single part of brain n heart although i’ll be there almost 9 months later. i love my beloved indonesia so much.
as the young generation of indonesia, i’m proud that i still have many friends to build indonesia better better n better in many years ahead.
